Jeff Mitchell knows personal injury law.
Jeff is the owner of NOVA Injury Law. NOVA was created to assist victims of serious injuries with their legal claims. Before NOVA, Jeff worked for a large regional firm in the area of insurance law and then for a plaintiff-side personal injury firm. Jeff has built a career, and a firm representing Nova Scotians after an injury. NOVA Injury Law is quickly becoming known as a progressive, innovative hub where solutions are found.
Born in Halifax, Jeff attended Saint Mary’s University and completed an honours degree in Criminology. During his time at Saint Mary’s, Jeff founded the SMU Community Development Initiative Levy, a student-backed fund providing seed funds to local community oriented projects. He served as a Student Association Director and sat on the Academic Senate. Since graduating, Jeff has coached the University’s legal case debating society. Jeff was honoured in 2015 with the SMU Alumni of the Year award.
Jeff completed his legal training at top-ranked Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. While at Osgoode Hall, Jeff participated in various pro bono projects, including the Legal Aid Clinic and the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto. The latter, a joint effort between doctors and lawyers to ensure quality patient care, brought Jeff before the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board where he represented clients who were victims of unprofessional or negligent treatment by a physician. In addition to his pro bono efforts, Jeff was the leader of the Law School’s Academic Student Government and vice-chair of Faculty Council. Upon graduation, he was awarded the Osgoode Hall Gold Key Prize.
In 2013, Jeff was named by 21Inc, the region’s entrepreneur innovation group, as one of Atlantic Canada Top 50 Emerging Leaders for his leadership and community building projects. Jeff has served on many community-oriented boards, including; Legal Counsel to Fusion Halifax (a network for young professionals in the Halifax Area), Director of Triathlon Nova Scotia, and representing the citizens of Halifax Regional Municipality as a Police Commissioner.
His approach to law incorporates his passion for assisting those in need with his preferred area of practice. Jeff’s mission for each client is to maximize medical and financial recovery by ensuring that injuries are properly assessed and respected by the insurance company.
- The ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ approach to accident claims doesn’t produce effective outcomes for clients. Instead, the client is left with unnecessary risk, cost, stress, and wasted time.
Jeff has modelled his firm, NOVA Injury Law, around the tried-and-true medical philosophies which have benefited of patients in the Canadian medical system for years.
- People often ask us what our advantage is. Lawyers are excellent at interpreting the law, but we aren’t doctors. Given that the starting point for every claim is the client’s medical health, we work directly with doctors to assess our client’s medical file. At NOVA Injury Law, we believe that a scientific- approach achieves better results. One of our doctors provides an in-house perspective to your injuries, symptoms, and expected recovery time. As the lawyer, it’s my duty to ensure that your legal claim provides you with the compensation necessary to help ensure the optimal medical and financial recovery.
